April is National Volunteer Month, a time to celebrate and recognize the contributions of volunteers. CAI is grateful and fortunate to work with the hundreds of volunteer leaders and thousands of volunteer advocates who dedicate time to community association advocacy at the local, state, and federal levels.
CAI relies on volunteers to champion the community association industry when engaging with their elected officials and staff. From the legislative action committee members in 36 states and the members of the CAI Federal Legislative Action Committee and CAI Government and Public Affairs Committee, we’re grateful for the work of nearly 700 volunteers.
CAI’s legislative action committees are comprised of homeowner leaders, community managers, and community association business partners who monitor legislation, educate lawmakers, and help develop policies to support and protect the interests of the common interest housing model. According to the Foundation for Community Association Research, 77.1 million Americans live in community associations.
This legislative season, CAI is tracking and advocating for more than 2,000 pieces of legislation. Each state’s legislative action committee provides perspective to legislators on how proposed legislation could impact people living and working in community associations. If you’d like to ensure your state legislative action committee is equipped to fulfill its advocacy mission, consider donating here.
In addition to state legislative action committees, CAI is fortunate to have a federal legislative action committee that monitors federal legislation and policy. CAI’s Government and Public Affairs Committee develops and steers CAI’s public policies.
CAI’s Federal Legislative Action Committee strives to represent, serve, and protect CAI members through a comprehensive federal advocacy program focused on the United States Congress, administrative agencies, and other regulatory bodies.
CAI’s Government and Public Affairs Committee develops new and updated public policies to best support the community association industry. The committee reviews new policy topics each year. This year, two task forces were formed to consider new and updated public policies on assessment increase limitations and affordable housing.
Get Involved Today! This month also is an opportunity to encourage more people to get involved in their communities. It’s also a great month to reaffirm your commitment to giving back to the community association industry.
Simple ways to get involved in CAI’s advocacy mission and initiatives today include:
