Forty-four percent of Americans are unsure how to get involved or where to find opportunities to volunteer. That’s why National Volunteer Week and Global Volunteer Month are so important to us. CAI Advocacy relies on volunteers to champion the community association industry housing model when engaging with their elected officials and staff. From the volunteer Legislative Action Committee members in 36 states and the volunteer members of the Federal Legislative Action Committee and Government and Public Affairs Committee, we’re grateful for the work of the nearly 700 volunteers who devote hundreds of hours every year advocating for the community association housing model.
This time of year, more than ever, we’re honoring the amazing and dedicated volunteers who make CAI and the community association housing model great.
In 37 states, CAI’s Legislative Action Committees are led by homeowner leaders, community managers, and community association business partners who volunteer to monitor legislation, educate lawmakers, and help develop policies to support and protect the interests of the 74.2 million Americans who live in community associations, according to the Foundation for Community Association Research.
These individuals are vital to CAI’s advocacy successes each year. This legislative season, CAI is tracking and advocating for more than 1,800 pieces of legislation. Each state’s legislative action committee is a diverse group of homeowner leaders, community managers, and business partners who provide perspective to legislators on how proposed legislation could impact people living and working in community associations. If you’d like to ensure your state Legislative Action Committee is equipped to fulfill its advocacy mission, consider donating here.
In addition to state Legislative Action Committees, CAI is fortunate to have Federal Legislative Action Committee volunteers monitor federal legislation and policy, and CAI’s Government and Public Affairs Committee, which develops and steers CAI’s public policies.
CAI’s Government and Public Affairs Committee is working to develop new and updated public policies to best support the community association housing model. The Committee reviews new policy topics each year for consideration. This year, three task forces were formed to discuss and consider public policies on building maintenance and structural integrity, board member education, and home-based businesses.
Thank you to all the volunteers who spend their time advocating with CAI on behalf of the community association housing model. If you’d like to join the ranks of volunteers for the community association housing model, CAI makes it easy to get involved. Sign up to be an advocate here, and CAI will notify you when we need your help. For other ways to take action, check CAI’s Take Action Page.
