The 118th Congress is hopefully being sworn in this week with a diverse group of legislators. The first Gen Z representative, 25-year-old Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-Fla.), will be sworn in. All eyes are on the Speaker of the House vote to see whether Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has the votes to become the next speaker. This is the first time in a century the speaker vote went beyond a first ballot.

California, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Wisconsin are back in session. This year, 17 states have Democratic “trifectas,” where they control legislative chambers and the governor’s office, and 22 states have Republican trifectas.

CAI’s *NEW* Legislative Tracking Map

Nearly 500 legislative bills were introduced in 19 states, and CAI is analyzing these proposals and advocating on your behalf. Find out what’s happening in your state by visiting CAI’s new legislative tracking map.

The system allows you to search by keyword, filter by multiple states, and download or share real-time reports.

CAI’s Government and Public Affairs team has set up state-specific pages with all the bills we are tracking. To access your state’s tracking page, navigate to your state’s LAC Landing Page and click on “Current Legislative Tracking in Your State.” From there you can bookmark this page.

What Elected Officials Do You Know

Help us advocate for the community association housing model by telling us who you know in the legislature. Take our brief, 1-2 minute survey to let us know what elected officials and staffers you have relationships with to help build CAI’s advocacy network: https://www.caionline.org/Advocacy/TakeAction/Pages/relationships.aspx
