CAI member-advocates like you personally have an opportunity to help CAI build its network of connections with elected officials and support the community association industry. Research shows that legislators who hear from personal or professional connections are twice as likely to support them in legislative efforts. By developing a network of relationships with elected officials, CAI can build successful advocacy programs that advance positions which directly impact our members.

CAI uses a platform called VoterVoice to collect information about our members’ personal and professional relationships with legislators and their staff and conduct effective grassroots advocacy work online. Review the user-friendly platform and tell us who you know.

What information are we looking for? These connections include legislators and/or their staff members at all levels of government who you know personally or professionally, such as family, friends, colleagues, coworkers, college roommates, service providers, or neighbors (either presently or in the past). If you have this type of connection with someone working at the local, state, or federal level – please tell CAI so we can capture this information.

CAI collects this information on a rolling basis, sending targeted requests for information to advocates based on where they live and/or work when fighting critical battles in state legislatures. When you receive an email from CAI alerting you to urgent calls to action in your area, please make sure to open it and respond as instructed. This includes when we email you asking for information about connections and relationships with legislators and members of their staff.

Tell CAI About Who You Know! Simply follow these instructions:

  • Visit votervoice.net/CAI/Relationships.
  • Enter your contact information.
  • Search the first or last name of the elected official/staff and select their name when it pops up.
  • Select the type of relationship and add any details about your relationship in the notes section.
  • Click assign.
  • Repeat this process to report any and all additional connections to CAI.

This will only take a moment and will help increase the impact of CAI’s legislative advocacy work in 2026 and beyond. If you’ve shared a legislator’s connection with CAI in the past, please take a moment to review those relationships to ensure the information is accurate and up to date.

The information you share will help guide CAI’s legislative efforts at every level. CAI may contact you to request your support—whether that’s by sharing CAI resources or meeting with legislators. Building and maintaining these connections is increasingly important as we continue to see a steadily increasing number of proposed bills each year that will affect homeowners across the United States. You can review the legislation that CAI is currently tracking nationwide here.

In addition to completing this survey, please share it with your networks. Widespread participation is critical for the overall success of CAI’s legislative advocacy efforts at every level – local, state, and federal. If you have any questions or issues accessing this link or finding your connection in the online system, please email government@caionline.org for assistance.

Help deepen connections in Congress. You also are invited to attend CAI’s 2026 Congressional Advocacy Summit on Sept. 24 in Washington, D.C. This exciting event is exclusively for CAI members. Together, we will meet with members of Congress and their staff, advocate for industry federal legislative priorities, and represent the interests of community associations and their residents nationwide. Learn more and reserve your spot.
