CAI’s community of homeowner leaders, community association managers, and business partners are devastated by the Kerrville, Texas, floods. Our hearts break for the families impacted by these destructive floods. The destruction stemming from this natural disaster is impacting community associations of all sizes and types in the greater central Texas region.
The CAI community is activated and here to support and provide resources. Below we’ve gathered information on current state, local, and federal responses and resources to assist with the difficult task of navigating and sustaining safety and initial recovery surrounding this emergency.
Federal Government Responses and Resources
President Trump signed a Major Disaster Declaration for areas of central Texas impacted by recent floods on July 6. The declaration is retroactive to July 2, meaning households impacted by flooding from July 2 onward are eligible for federal disaster relief. The Federal Emergency Management Agency also published its map of counties designated as disaster areas eligible for federal assistance here.
State Government Responses and Resources
Gov. Greg Abbott declared a state of disaster on July 4, authorizing all available state government resources and political subdivisions reasonably necessary to cope with this disaster. More information on this declaration can be found here.
Insurance Related Responses
Texas’s Department of Insurance published tips on how to file flood claims, including how to protect and repair homes and how to avoid being scammed during the process which can be found here.
Continuing Advocacy Efforts in Response to this Disaster
CAI continues to ensure government resources are available to affected communities. This includes advocating to obtain a presidential disaster declaration that includes provisions for debris removal from private roads in community associations. CAI will be engaging with Abbott’s office and the Texas congressional delegation to secure vital resources for recovery efforts.
Team CAI headquarters, Texas chapters, and the Texas Legislative Action continue to collaborate to help.
