Forty-four states begin their 2020 legislative session this month and thousands of bills will be introduced. As we begin this new year, CAI wants to remind you of the resources we have to assist with any advocacy or lobbying efforts on behalf of the 347,000 community associations in the U.S.
Legislative Tracking Reports
Every day our team tracks state legislation looking for newly-introduced bills or amended bills that impact community associations. The reports generated are dynamic and updated daily. You can access these reports on your state’s legislative action committee page by clicking on ‘Legislative Tracking Report’ in the upper right-hand section of the page. Please bookmark this URL for quick reference. Once in a report, click the title to view the current text of the legislation, and click the status to view the complete history of the bill. You can find your state’s legislative tracking report here.
Public Policies
When an issue that impacts CAI members arises, we develop a public policy position to guide you and your homeowner leader volunteers. Because CAI is a membership organization, any of the more than 43,000 members can propose a public policy for consideration by the Government & Public Affairs Committee and Board of Directors. As a member of a CAI LAC, one of your responsibilities is to promote and follow CAI’s public policies at the state level. You can find our public policies here.
Email/Social Media Campaigns
CAI has a full suite of tools to facilitate our LAC’s grassroots advocacy efforts, making it easy for you to engage our membership to advocate on your associations behalf. Please reach out to our team so we can help your LAC curate an email or social media campaign to engage CAI members to contact their elected officials concerning pending legislation in your state during the 2020 session.
Here is an example of a current campaign CAI is promoting to our membership to support The Disaster Assistance Equity Act of 2019 (H.R. 5337).
Resources for Legislators
CAI’s Government and Public Affairs team has developed a library of resources for you to use when meeting with your elected officials on issues concerning community associations. Within this library you will find an array of resources to share with your elected officials including advocacy guides and statistics. These resources can be found here.
Thank you for volunteering your time and advocating for the 73.5 million Americans who live and work in community associations. The success we accomplish each year would not occur without our membership’s help.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to CAI’s Government and Public Affairs Team at government@caionline.org or 888-224-4321.
