Community events are a great opportunity for state and federal elected officials to get to know their constituents, experience local community spirit, learn about issues important to your community. CAI’s ongoing Constituents in Your Communities campaign encourages members nationwide to let us know about community and chapter events so we can invite key elected officials.

On Nov. 21, CAI Coachella Valley Chapter hosted a Legislative Update Lunch Program & Mini Trade Show in Palm Desert, Calif. This exciting event brought top community association attorneys and local community association advocates to break down the newest laws, key cases, and critical changes impacting community associations in 2026.

Holly Smith, CCAM, CMCA, AMS, PCAM, executive director of CAI’s Coachella Valley Chapter, reached out to CAI to let us know event details. She requested help inviting a key legislator representing the area, Rep. Raul Ruiz (CA-25), to attend or send a staff member.

CAI connected with the congressman’s office and invited him or a member of his staff to attend the event. We were thrilled that Frank Ruiz, district director for Rep. Ruiz, attended in-person. This was a great opportunity for him to get to know district residents and learn about the issues impacting them and their community associations.

He viewed a presentation by industry experts, mingled with attendees, and met and took pictures with members of the CAI Coachella Valley Chapter.

Together, we can strengthen relationships with key policymakers and garner support for legislation that aligns with CAI’s public policy positions. Your elected officials need to hear from constituents like you about important issues impacting those living and working in their districts.

Let us know about an event you’re hosting or attending by submitting this form or reaching out to government@caionline.org.
