CAI’s Government and Public Affairs team joined more than 200 organizations—including corporations, federal, state, and local government agencies, trade associations, special interest groups, and consulting firms—this week as an exhibitor at the 2024 National Conference of State Legislatures’ Legislative Summit in Louisville, Ky.
CAI showcased its expertise as the leading international authority on the community association housing model to more than 4,000 state legislators, their staff, federal officials, and other attendees representing all 50 states and 20 countries.
CAI also developed new relationships with influential state government officials. With more than 1,200 pieces of legislation impacting community associations tracked each year, face-to-face interactions with lawmakers who shape public policy affecting communities are critical. CAI discussed current legislative priorities with state leaders and provided them with an understanding of the community association industry.
Condominium safety public policies, diversity, and equity efforts were at the forefront of our team’s discussions with state legislators. Staff shared CAI’s newly updated Condominium Safety Public Policy as well as CAI’s resources on rights and responsibilities for better communities with legislators and staffers. We’ll follow up with these legislators’ offices and CAI legislative action committees to continue to cultivate relationships at every level of the industry through a webinar this fall.
CAI also encouraged legislators and their staffs to connect with community associations in their district through CAI’s Constituents in Your Communities program. This program allows CAI communities to invite state and federal elected officials and their staffs to association events in their district to get to know their constituents, experience local community spirit, and learn about issues important to communities.
CAI benefits from the homeowner leaders, community managers, and business partners who serve on their state LACs. LACs advocate for laws supporting effective governance and oppose legislation detrimental to the community association housing model. We provide legislators and their staff with information and resources on how to better serve their constituents living in community associations.
