CAI was honored with a Power of Associations Silver Award for its campaign to protect community associations from burdensome reporting requirements under the Corporate Transparency Act at the American Society of Association Executives’ Summit Awards Dinner on Sept. 25 in Washington, D.C.
The Power of Associations 2025 Summit Awards recognize associations that go beyond their missions to make a meaningful impact on communities, the workforce, and society at large. CAI received a silver award for its successful drive to exempt community associations from federal disclosure requirements that would have placed significant burdens on millions of volunteer board members.
Following the enactment of the act, CAI launched a multi-pronged advocacy campaign to protect community associations. Our efforts focused on:
- Lobbying Congress, the U.S. Treasury Department, and FinCEN.
- Strategic communications and grassroots outreach to educate and mobilize both members and non-member stakeholders.
- Federal litigation to prevent enforcement of the act.
CAI measured success through policy outcomes and unprecedented member engagement. More than 12,150 CAI advocates contacted their members of Congress to support this initiative, which demonstrated the power and unity of our community.
This marks the second time in recent years CAI was honored with this award. In 2022, CAI was recognized for our condominium safety public policy initiatives following the tragic collapse of Champlain Towers South in Surfside, Fla.
The recognition reflects the incredible legal effort from CAI’s College of Community Association Lawyers representing plaintiff communities from Michigan, Texas, and Virginia. The collective efforts resulted in community association entities not having to comply with erroneous and unnecessary reporting requirements.
A huge thank you to attorneys Brendan Bunn and Edmund Allcock who generously donated hundreds of hours of legal expertise, personal, and professional time throughout the federal lawsuit. CCAL fellows Allcock and Bunn’s dedication and legal prowess were instrumental in our success.
CAI was recognized alongside other award-winning associations in Washington, D.C., highlighting its ongoing commitment to advocacy, leadership, and community impact.
